A wonderful week, which I’m still recovering from. Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a success.
- I loved seeing everyone’s creativity on Tuesday in dressing up as a character from a book. All photos of the week will reside on SAMBA Server (P:\Book Week 13-3-07). Printouts of the Infant classes all dressed up are also up on the display boards outside the library — as well as the work of some K2 PWa students writing about Book Week. A display of the best of the Junior school students in book character costumes will follow, once the teachers finish delivering them to me or Joseph or the Y: drive (\\nerdanel\Shared\Book Week Photos).
- The storyteller (and former UWC drama teacher) Roger Jenkins made Grade 4 and 5 students think about the connection between crocodiles and chickens, as well as ways to keep peace between people.

- Ian Whybrow told stories to students in Grades 1, 2, and 3 about writing for children and how events and people in his own life have found their way into his picture books. He also read and recited very funny poems and nursery rhymes, compliments of Little Wolf.

- Julia Donaldson put on a whole show, acting out the story of the Gruffalo and other picture books and songs for the K1 and K2 students. I couldn’t watch the performance as I was with Ian Whybrow and the Grade 3 students at the time, but I saw the video that Joseph recorded and it looked thoroughly entertaining.
- During Book Week our students and parents were very generous towards the global concern PAL (Promoting Asian Literacy) — raising over S$ 800 for new books and donating hundreds of second-hand children’s books — all of which will go to impoverished school libraries in southeast Asia.
- A picture book in a day! Yes, the students in 5DKa wrote, edited, illustrated, and published Falling Leaves in one day last week. The blurb on the back cover describes it thus:
- The “book buddies” in 5FRe and 2JWa are also to be congratulated for the Story Boxes they had on display outside the library all last week. There were some wonderful creative, co-operative efforts to admire.
A story about a friendship which is similar to leaves falling from separate trees that weave in and out and through. Will their friendship last?
The book, along with posters and supporting material explaining the process the students went through, is on display in the library. Come have a read! (p.s. The book is dedicated to me — my first ever book dedication!)
